Good morning.The Corning community is mourning the loss of a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran, prominent local small business owner, and father of Corning Police Chief Kenzie Spaulding. Eighty-one-year-old Lieutenant Colonel John French Spencer has passed away. Spencer was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device for heroically rescuing a wounded medic under heavy combat fire in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Alongside his late wife, Spencer spent decades actively giving back to regional civic organizations while operating the popular Spencer's Restaurant in Corning.Meanwhile, LeChase Construction Services has been awarded a prestigious national Build America Award from the Associated General Contractors of America. The top industry honor recognizes the builder's innovative work on the massive Corning Museum of Glass studio expansion. The multi-million-dollar renovation successfully doubled the size of the glassmaking facility and built North America's first specialized casting operation for large-scale glass art, all while meticulously preserving the structure's historic nineteen-fifties exterior.And railroad enthusiasts are preparing to gather at Eldridge Park in Elmira this Saturday for the fourth annual Train Day festival.
