Good morning. West Virginians are heading to the polls. It is Primary Election Day across the Mountain State. Polling places opened at 6:30 this morning and will remain open until 7:30 tonight. Election officials remind voters that a valid ID is required to cast a ballot. More than 67,000 residents already took advantage of the early voting period, and because this is a primary, voters will receive ballots corresponding to their registered party.In the state capital, Kanawha County Schools are bracing for a budget shift. The district is projecting a loss of 100 students to a new charter school opening in Marmet, which equates to a nearly one-point-two-million-dollar drop in state aid. Treasurer Melanie Meadows says the district is cutting funds for maintenance and supplies to balance the books, though she notes cuts are not being made at the individual school level. A final vote on that budget is expected this Thursday.In Wayne County, the search continues for those responsible for a targeted attack on the East Lynn Power Station back in January. Appalachian Power is now offering a 25,000-dollar reward for information leading to an arrest. The vandalism, which involved cutting a security fence and draining transformer oil into Twelvepole Creek, crippled the local water system for several days. The school’s annual Day of Giving shattered expectations, raising over 361,000 dollars—well above the initial 200,000-dollar goal. Meanwhile, students at West Liberty University are back from Pittsburgh after working behind the scenes at the NFL Draft, gaining professional sports experience at one of the biggest events of the year.In sports, Marshall University is officially adding Women’s STUNT as a varsity sport. The Thundering Herd has named Evynn Richard as the program's first head coach. Richard arrives from Cal Baptist, a program that just secured its sixth consecutive national championship.And in New Cumberland, there is great news for four-legged friends. Dog adoptions at the Hancock County Animal Shelter are up 50 percent, with over 200 animals finding homes since last fall.
